There are changes afoot this year at Torbay Hospital Radio as the station celebrates 43 years of broadcasting from Torbay Hospital.
A fresh new look will arrive during 2020. The station has teamed up with Torquay Girls Grammar School to help them design their new logo. Out of some fantastic entries, the new logo was picked by the team, which shows off a modern, fresh, vibrant, caring hospital radio station.
The long awaited second studio project will also be completed later this year, with the team making a start on this a few weeks ago. The idea has been in the pipeline for a while and they hope to have the studio completed by Easter. This will primarily be used for production and training.
Elsewhere, the station are trying to fundraise £10,000 to fund an upgrade to their main studio, Studio one. They’re raising funds for a new desk, equipment, chairs and carpet to ensure the station is brought into the modern age. So far, the team have raised £2,500.
In January, Frank Mears celebrated 9 years and Alan Ashby celebrated 34 years with the station respectively.
All of the changes the station want to achieve have come from a new leadership team which has been in place since November 2019. Chairman, Lee Thomas, says they are a real driving force on modernisation and making things easy and simple for volunteers, whilst ensuring the core values of the charity are being met.
The new team comprises of:
Chairman – Lee Thomas
Vice Chairman – Geoff Webb
Secretary & Marketing – Leanne Bevan
Programme Controller – Stephanie Teece
Member Manager – Steve Harper
Inclusion, Accessibility and Equality Manager – Catherine Dodd.
The team look forward to the year ahead and showcasing all that Torbay Hospital Radio has to offer when they launch a new website later this year.
