Birmingham’s BHBN have been offering local care homes interent radios, so residents can enjoy programmes produced by the station.
Having received a sizeable bequeath from a former patient we wanted to share some of it with our health community. As our hospitals turned down offers of Internet Radio’s because of infection control, we decided to reach out to the wider community and offer them to Care Homes.
The latest Care Home to take advantage of the offer of a donated Internet Radios from BHBN is Claridge Place is Olton Solihull. BHBNradio’s Paul Stanley is pictured socially distanced handing over the radio to Stuart
Hancock, Well-being and activities lead.
Other care homes that have already accepted donations of the BHBN Internet Radios are The Heartlands, Yardley Green and The Sunrise, Edgbaston both in Birmingham & Swallows Meadow in Shirley Solihull. We are continuing to contact homes in the area with the offer.
According to research undertaken by national charity, Age UK, music can be extremely beneficial for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia by connecting and stimulating memories from somebody’s life which can often result in a personal response. Playing music from a significant period or event in a person’s life such as a song from their wedding, birthday or anniversary can help recall special memories and emotions.
