In June of 2017, Bridgend Hospital Radio were over the moon to discover that they had been selected as Sainsbury’s Charity of the Year for the Bridgend store by the stores customers.
This selection has allowed the charity to raise our profile, spread the message of the work they do at BHR to the local community and raise some much needed funds to allow the station to carry on providing their service to the staff, patients and visitors to the Princess of Wales Hospital.
Over the course of the year, they have been blown away by the support, generosity and hospitality they have received from all of the staff and customers at the Bridgend store.
The station would like to give a special thanks and mention to community champion Jackie Thomas who has become a lifelong friend of the station over the course of the year. The work that Jackie does deserves special recognition and she truly is a asset to Sainsbury’s.
BHR are pleased to announce that over the course of the year through bag packs, collection buckets and also through the sale of Charity Calendars the customers at the Bridgend store raised a staggering £3,351.95 for the station.
The funds raised will go towards running costs for the next couple of years, and also towards the station expanding their reach through the introduction of online broadcasting. The introduction of online broadcasting is vital in our continuation of service as it allows BHR to reach a wider number of patients within the hospital, and also will act as a connection between patients in hospital and their families, who will be able to listen to the station at home and send requests, dedications and messages to loved ones in hospital.
BHR would once again like to say a huge thank you to the staff and all the customers at Sainsbury’s Bridgend for all their generosity over the next year, and wish the next charity of the year the best of luck during your tenure as the Charity of the Year.
