London’s longest running hospital radio station has not stopped broadcasting and has remained on-air throughout the Coronavirus pandemic.
As we have all experienced, the pandemic has made us change the ways in which we negotiate all those things we usually do. Here at Radio Brockley, we have also needed to adapt, to make sure that we continue to keep our patients and staff informed-and of course entertained!
We have remained on air 24/7-despite live broadcasting being a challenge-through a combination of pre-recorded shows and music mixes These are some of the programmes, podcasts and interviews we have broadcast over the last few months:
Supporting Our Staff: proudly paying tribute to our hard-working Nurses!
On 11th May, Martin Gold and Keith Reeve hosted a 2-hour live special request show for “International Nurses Day”. Keith also hosted a 2-hour live “Nursing Sunday Special” on 7th June, alongside Temi; a nurse on the Short Stay Unit. During this programme, key members of the nursing staff connected via Zoom to thank their teams and all the staff involved during the peak of the crisis. The range of guests included Chief Nurse and Interim Chief Executive of the RNOH, Professor Paul Fish, as well as Divisional Head of Nursing, Brian Dorman – who also provided live music! All of this was broadcast live to patients and staff in the hospital.
You Say, we play!
We have also recently started visiting our patients on the wards again. It has been fantastic to hear everyone’s different take on what sort of music helps them feel better during the different stages of their recovery! We have loved being able to take song requests in person; it’s a real honour to hear the stories behind peoples’ choices and what makes those selections so special to them.
Listen Again
Alan Joyce, Rebecca Lewis and Keith Reeve produced 12 Covid-19 Brockley News Specials which were also made available as podcasts, and these featured interviews with key members of the hospital including Paul Fish (Acting CEO and Head Nurse), Lucy Davies (Chief Operating Office), amongst others.
Many are still on our podcast channel and are available from your usual podcast platform.
Also, Brockley News is 10 years old and that we’ve recorded some special shows looking back. Our new music showcase, the Alpha Sessions has continued. We havearound 25 online interviews with artists available on YouTube.
