Radio Cherwell members Neil and Marion Stockton from Bletchingdon in Oxfordshire, have completed 50 years each of volunteering at the Oxford based hospital radio station.

At a surprise celebratory lunch to commemorate this achievement, certificates celebrating 50 years service were presented to them from the national hospital radio body, the Hospital Broadcasting Association.

Gifts were also presented by the station’s membership and a video collage of greetings from current and past members, some of whom have gone onto work in radio and television, were played at the lunch.

Both Neil and Marion have been Chairperson of the station over the last 50 years, with Neil being the current chairman.

The station has been serving hospital patients in the city’s three hospitals for the past 53 years. The main studio is based at the Churchill Hospital in Headington, with broadcasts being heard across the John Radcliffe Hospital and Nuffield Hospital as well as online.

Commenting on Neil and Marion’s achievement, Professor Megan Pandit, the Chief Executive of Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said:

‘Neil and Marion have done a fantastic job volunteering with a station that gives fantastic comfort to the patients. I am very grateful for their 50 years service’.
