Radio Tyneside Chairman Dave Nicholson MBE has been awarded an OBE in the New Years Honours List.

Dave has been involved with Radio Tyneside for just over 48 years and received an MBE in 1997 for services to the Civil Service. His award of the OBE is for his work with Radio Tyneside and the local community.

The award comes as Radio Tyneside ended its 70th birthday celebrations in 2021, where the station also received a donation of £8,000 from the Daft as a Brush charity, who provide free transport to/from the hospitals Radio Tyneside serve for patients undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy treatment.

Speaking to RadioToday on receiving his OBE, Dave said:

I am honoured to be considered for this award and it has been a pleasure to have worked with the volunteers past and present who have made Radio Tyneside the success it is.

Radio Tyneside is the hospital and community radio station for Newcastle and Gateshead. Dave played a pivotal role in getting the station it’s community radio licence, with plans for the station to launch on Small Scale DAB in the future.
