Farewell to Radio Robin and Radio Craigavon

It’s with sadness that the HBA has to report the closure of two hospital radio stations, due to changes in NHS.

The committee at Radio Robin, Ilkeston Community Hospital Radio, has taken the tough decision to end its programming, after the changes resulted in very few  patients now staying overnight at the hospital – a good thing for the patients but not so good for the team at Radio Robin.

The heart of the station will live on though, as much of the equipment has been handed to other hospital radio stations, ensuring it’s still being used to entertain patients.

Station Manager Jude Drew has paid tribute to all those involved in the station, since its launch back in 1993 and has said how proud she is that they have brightened up many a-peoples day by playing their favourite tune or memory, helping send them on the road to recovery.

Radio Craigavon has taken a similar decision, due to changes within the NHS, airing it’s last programme on June 24th.  Chairman James Kerr thanked all who’d supported the stations over the last 37 years, from volunteers, local businesses and many individuals who’d donated to the service.
