HBA Member Station, Rookwood Sound have taken the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic ‘lockdown’ to new heights – in particular, from one presenters’ loft! Following the Government lockdown announcement, Rookwood Sound’s Engineer John Bingham has been working hard to find a solution to enable the station and its intrepid team of presenters to broadcast from home.
As a small station, Rookwood Sound relies on its studios to enable it to broadcast as most stations do across the UK. However, after many hours and as a result of Bingham’s hard work and technical skills, the station soon had a test programme broadcast on 1st April 2020. The decision to proceed was on the grounds that if it went wrong then an it was a mere April fool!
Following a successful test broadcast, which did not transpire to be an Apirl fool, Rookwood Sound commenced live programming with Richard Davies who is the longest serving member of the station. Davies presented a two hour programme live from his attic in his pyjamas, using Myriad, and other technical equipment to get on air.
Well done team Rookwood for overcoming these barriers to entertain our listeners at Llandough Hospital and snazzy PJ’s, Richard!
