A stalwart of radio broadcasting, Tony Blackburn hosted his FIRST EVER hospital radio show on Preston Hospital Radio, ahead of BBC Radio 2 in the Park, held in Preston on the same weekend.
On a call with Scott Mills on BBC Radio 2, Tony said he’d never done hospital radio but was looking forward to presenting the show, citing his stay in hospital last year and remembering everything the staff did for him.
Tony’s show lasted two hours on Preston Hospital Radio which saw him play requests for patients in the hospital.
Silas Nicholls, chief executive of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where Preston Hospital Radio is based, commented:
The Hospital Radio volunteers at Royal Preston Hospital provide a fantastic service, lifting the spirits of patients, families and staff, and it was great to host Richie Anderson and the legendary Tony Blackburn. To have them step in and assist with our shows was a fantastic surprise for all, ahead of what is set to be an exciting weekend for BBC Radio 2 in Preston.
Richie Anderson, who is also a familiar voice on BBC Radio 2 also hosted on Preston Hospital Radio, taking over the breakfast slot!
